Summit All*Stars Storm the Spring Series!
The club's Go-Riders were out in force on Sunday 18th January at the first round of the Gorrick Spring Series, held at Saddleback Hill near Camberley, Surrey.
Summit fielded ten riders across three age categories, competing in freezing conditions but on a course that was dry, fast and technically-challenging.
First off the start were the Youth boys (15-16), completing two laps of the adult course. Last year’s star rider, Ross Deall (15, from Aylesbury), competing in this new age category for the first time, rode strongly to claim twelve place against riders a full year older than him. Josh Scott (16, from Chalfont St Giles) was unlucky to puncture during the first lap and was unable to complete the race.
Next to race were Juvenile Boys (13-14), also riding two laps of the course. In this highly-competitive category Summit riders Ollie Raja-Brown, Tom Barrowcliffe and Jake Scott fought hard to finish 9th, 11th and 14th respectively.
Summit’s best-represented category, with some new and keenly competitive riders, was the Under 11s, who raced on a shortened, but still challenging three-quarter lap course. In a strong start to the season, Lucy Allsop (8, from Hyde Heath) was first home in the U11 Girls. In the boys’ race William Shield (10) rode fantastically in his first ever race to claim 5th place, narrowly pipping his teammate, Ed Campbell (10, from Waddesdon) into 6th, ahead by just 5 seconds. Ben Donald (8, from Chinnor) was 17th and Alex Benger (8, from Aylesbury) was 23rd.
The racers are looking forward to Round 2 to be held in Crowthorne Woods, near Bracknell, Berks on February 8th.
