Summit All*Stars Shine in Series Standings
Sunday saw the final round of the British Cycling Southern XC Series take place at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield, Hampshire.
The younger team riders tackled a hilly and technically challenging short course, with Lucy Allsop (again taking on the older girls and ‘riding up’ a category) completing the four laps in the Under 11’s race to take not only the win on the day, but also the overall series title.
The team fielded two young riders in the U9’s category – Orla Barrowcliffe (6, from Aylesbury) and Katie Allsop (4, from Hyde Heath). Orla rode especially well in her first race for the team, just missing out on a podium place by 10 seconds. Katie finished in fifth place. The future of Summit All*Stars girls’ team looks to have a strong future!
The Under 13s raced one lap of the full course and Summit All*Stars’ Ollie Raja-Brown rode to a fantastic fourth place, meaning that he also finished in joint fourth position overall in the Series.
The Juvenile Boys (13-14) saw what was probably the most hotly-contested race on the day, completing two laps of the hilly four-mile course and here Ross Deall (14, from Aylesbury) secured a fantastic 9th position, with Tom Barrowcliffe (13, from Aylesbury) riding well into 14th. Ross and Tom secure top-ten placings in the Series overall, finishing 8th and 10th respectively. Summit’s only Youth competitor, James Creavin (15), started strongly, but suffered from a snapped chain near the end of the first lap meaning he could not continue.
